In the 1800s, Thomas Rutherford became know as a grower and producer of high-quality wines. The Rutherford area is located within the approximately 11,887 acre Mexican Land Grant, Rancho Caymus. This grant was deeded to George C Yount.
Yount, in turn, gave 1,040 acres of the grant to his grand daughter Elizabeth and her husband Thomas Rutherford in 1864 as a wedding present.
Today you will not only see evidence of the Rutherford vineyards but you will be able to experience dining at Rutherford Grill, a local favorite and note the old train station, olive oil store on the way to St. Helena to the North.
